The real issue is usually not a latch, a hinge, or an opener in isolation. The real issue is that the gate system has drifted out of tolerance somewhere.
Visible failure draws attention to the nearest part. A latch misses, so the latch gets blamed. The operator stops, so the motor gets blamed. A gate drags, so someone trims the bottom edge. Those fixes can be valid, but only if they match the reason the symptom appeared in the first place.
A one-time disruption and a pattern-based failure are not the same thing. If a branch blocked a photo eye, that is one kind of problem. If the gate keeps sagging, keeps reversing, or keeps falling out of alignment after adjustment, the better question is what changed in the support, hardware quality, footing, or operator system that keeps recreating the same symptom.
